“Dear Gullivers”, created together with Yukari Sakata, was initiated  in the summer of 2016 as part of the exhibition "Complex Topography: Movement and Change" that took place in the Ritsurin Garden, in the city of Takamatsu, Japan. This work intends to propose a way to regard a place, not as a fixed and static entity but as a process, as a complex collection of interconnected narratives created in the same or in different spatial and temporal contexts. Stories originated far away can end up being central in the construction of a place for better or worse. The traces can be found in the material elements of the place and more importantly, in the imaginaries of the people. In this sense, the work consists in introducing an apparatus in the form of a framework of chapters, whose names are relevant in the way we produce our sense of place. It is for the participants to build it in conversation with us and is ultimately left open for endless evolution.

Our position is not that of someone who proposes an interpretation of a place but of initiators of different possibilities. We propose a medium, a structure that does not present itself either as neutral nor as finalised. Every different technological device used to register and communicate the proposal is part of the apparatus of generation of place that this project intends to be.

This project is conceived to be always in transition, adapting to its different environments, migrating following the visual or textual suggestions that emerge in the process.

The framework of chapters is so far composed of the following:

ORIGIN, ENCOUNTER, CAMOUFLAGE, ESCAPE, ARRIVAL, EXPLORATION, SETTLEMENT AND CONTACT.
